Smart Villages – smart communities
What are smart villages?
Smart Villages are communities in rural areas. These communities develop smart solutions to address the specific challenges of the place where they live, by adopting a participatory approach. Smart solutions are defined as innovative ideas with respect to the context in which they are implemented, enabling them to address problems or situations specific to that place or community. Thus, they are SMART solutions – Specific to the context and problem they address, leading to measurable and achievable results, relevant to the community, with a defined time horizon. A participatory approach to community development means a dynamic of behavior change that starts with the active involvement of local actors and stakeholders in defining and implementing the strategy pursue it.
Our path
Our LAG is committed to the communities living in the area, deploying human, financial and knowledge resources to improve the quality of life of those living in rural areas. With the GALassie di comunità Local Development Strategy, we intend to support local communities in finding and implementing innovative solutions to the needs they face on a daily basis. With the 2023 – 2027 SSL, we will therefore bring resources and expertise to the territory to activate the enabling factors for community development.
What are we going to do?
Phase #0 - Collection of expressions of interest and Capacity Building
To give the most useful support possible, the LAG intends to start with proposals from the area. We will therefore collect expressions of interest, to identify communities that want to take action for the place where they live with a medium- to long-term strategic vision (partnerships, associations, informal groups, etc.). During the first half of 2024 we will organize a capacity building program, to accompany cooperative groups in defining their ideas. We will provide specific advice and expertise from the expressions of interest received.

Phase#1 - Resources for the definition of the Smart Village Strategy: Call SRG07
Smart Villages Strategies have all the key elements of a local development strategy. They are specific to the target context and community and aim at innovative solutions to respond to local challenges and opportunities. Through the SRG07 call for proposals, the LAG will financially support the definition and writing of Smart Villages Strategies.
A Smart Village strategy is thus the guiding document that brings together a community’s vision for the future, starting with the strengths and opportunities on the ground and through a participatory approach that offers a comprehensive, long-term vision.

Phase #2 - Calls for Proposals for the Implementation of the Smart Village Strategy.
Cooperation groups that participate in the capacity building and are supported through the SRG07 call will be able to access LEADER calls for proposals dedicated to financing the implementation of their projects. The capacity building will also support partnerships in finding the necessary resources for the implementation of Smart Villages Strategies, exploring different funding sources.

Collection of expressions of interest
We want to make the right tools available to the local area. To do this, we are therefore collecting proposals and projects from communities in the form of an expression of interest. To fill it out, download the template in .doc below and email it to animazione@evv.it by April 24th.
Sending the expression of interest is a necessary condition to participate in the accompanying pathway.

Useful tools from the EU
The Smart Rural 21 project was supported by the European Commission (DG AGRI) with the overall objective of promoting and inspiring villages to develop and implement smart village approaches and strategies across Europe, and to draw conclusions and support future. policy interventions on smart villages. The Website contains useful guidance on building the strategy and on good practices found throughout Europe.
Smart Rural 27 gathers information and select interesting experiences of Smart Communities, collecting the smart solutions they have adopted and the supporting policies that have supported them.The goal is to prepare member states and rural communities to seize opportunities from the European Union to improve the quality of life in rural areas, including Smart Villages.
Rural Toolkit
Rural toolkit is the comprehensive guide to EU funding and support opportunities for rural areas in the European Union. It aims to help local authorities, institutions and stakeholders, businesses and individuals identify and take advantage of existing EU funds, programs and other funding and support initiatives and promote development in rural areas.
